The NBU: before talking seriously about a blockchain implementation a lot of should be tested

The National Bank of Ukraine believes it stays on a fairly high level of development in terms of payments and technology development, but before start to integrate blockchain technology, a lot of remains to be verified.

Such opinion expressed Head of the Department of retail payments at the NBU Sergei Shatsky in the interview to the Financial Portal of the Ministry of Finance.

Sergei Shatsky noted that Ukraine is a trend, concerning global trends, such as blockchain-integration in the banking sector. But before we will talk seriously about implementing the same blockchain still a lot should be tested and verified.

According to him, in terms of payments and technology development, Ukraine is at a sufficient level of development.

The representative of the NBU said that it is necessary to invest in safety, convenience and low-cost solutions for a consumer. And do not forget to increase the financial literacy of the population.

Sergei Shatsky spoke about Prostir system, called it as an absolute analog of Visa or MasterCard. The system allows you to do exactly the same operations: withdraw cash, pay for purchases at POS terminals, pay for utilities and other services on the Internet.

Sergei Shatsky said the difference – the network is covering only the territory of Ukraine. The international payment systems – it is almost 100% of devices, we – have about 75%. For the end user, this means quite a nasty thing: not at all ATMs and terminals, you could apply for the card. But we should realize that Prostir in the form in which it exists today – a very young system. Problems with cards reception are temporary in nature, with them one way or another is faced any payment system on the path of its development.

Ukrainian banker Sergei Fedotov told about the work on creation banking blockchain-platform with open code, which will also focus on banks that are in Prostir.

In September, Sergei Shatsky said that the National Bank was exploring the possibility of applying blockchain technology in a project called Cashless Economy, scheduled for implementation in Ukraine.
